This poster was made to commemorate the brutal killing of Blair Peach, a New Zealander who was attacked by Special Branch police on his way home from an Anti-Nazi demonstration in Southhall, London. Check the date: 23 April 1979 and also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blair_Peach
Juan and I designed the poster in the Marquis of Granby, a pub at the top of Rathbone Place, London W1. He did the initial sketch on a paper napkin (I still have it!) and described how, that during the Franco regime in Spain, this was a technique used to protest about the Franco fascist brutality: someone would lie on the tarmac and another would paint around the outline leaving the outline to convey the message of protest. We executed this on paper on the floor of my flat/apartment in Rathbone Place; I combined the photograph of his painted outline with another of the pebbled street in Percy Mewz, some red gouache and type. The final poster was exhibited in Poland and London.
