Len Breen & Juan Muñoz Karaxu - Sings for the Chilean Resistance
Serigraph, 594mm x 840mm, Edition: over 2000, Poster Collective Screen-print Studio, London, UK, 1977.
The idea started as a sketch by Juan (at least I thought that it was by him!?) which I then developed and produced the silkscreen stencils. The guitar belonged to Mike Fedeski (my landlord), the hands are of one Martin Davidson, a technician, while the photography, typography and drawing were mine. Juan and I calculated that we could print them by hand at the rate of 200 or so per hour - a good days work. Unfortunately, we had significantly miscalculated as it took more than a week and left us both with severely blistered hands from the printing process. Appropriated by Francesca Altamirano (she may well have initiated the commission, I have no knowledge of that, but it did appear as her own work in her 'Central Degree Show'). Can be found in the 'Poster Collective' archives at the V&A.
